What is Reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary therapy recognised by the NHS for its non-intrusive, effective results. Most notably used to complement Western medicine in palliative care settings, fertility and maternity services and for general pain management. It started to become more known in the Western World in the 1950’s yet it is an ancient holistic therapy that can be traced back to ancient Egypt. Wall paintings at Saqqara, dating back to 2330 B.C. show patients receiving treatments on their hands and feet. Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands and feet which correspond to each organ, gland and body part. Stimulating these reflexes helps release blocked energy to balance the body, boost natural immunity, relieve pain and promote relaxation.

Reflexology provides a completely natural and unobtrusive complementary therapy to

Relax
Relieve stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia
Boost the immune system
Relieve muscular tension
Improve blood supply and circulation
Unblock energy/nerve pathways
Encourage the body's natural healing processes
Aid homeostasis (rebalance bodily functions)
Cleanse the body of toxins
Revitalise energy

What to expect during your treatment

Treatments are carried whilst seated in a reclining chair in a quiet room for maximum relaxation. A light lotion is applied to the skin and treatment is administered to bare feet. Pressure is applied using fingers, thumbs and knuckles to stimulate the reflexes. A response may or may not be felt. This will not affect the efficacy. A glass of water and a blanket are provided for your comfort. One session lasts approximately 50 minutes. However, please allow up to 1.5 hours for your initial session in order to complete a health questionnaire.
